The definition of “loop current” could be clearer. It should read, “An area of deep warm water in the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricanes stir up the water as they move and most often bring to the surface cold water that can cause the storm to weaken. When a storm tracks over a loop current, however, there is no cold water to bring up. Hurricanes often strengthen over loop currents in the Gulf of Mexico”.
